Missouri Changes Custody Law

Missouri has made changes to its child custody statute that will go into effect August 28, 2016. . Many people have "heard' that this change in the law will result in Mothers and Fathers having equal time with their children where the parents are no longer residing together. This is not accurate. The full revisions can be found here (please cut and paste into your browser): http://www.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills161/billpdf/truly/HB1550T.PDF Generally, what the law will say, as of August 31, 2016, is that no preference will be given to a mom or dad, based simply on their gender, in deciding custody. This is a far cry from mandating "equal" parenting time. I urge you to take a look at the full bill. The changes to the law are marked in BOLD. Ann Littell Mills Attorney
